Are you ready for a bigger task?

The Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.

The Norrbotten police area is Sweden's largest and northernmost region and is one of the police areas in the North region. The geographical area spans over 14 municipalities – from Arvidsjaur municipality in the south to Kiruna municipality in the north.

We are now looking for someone interested in working on an hourly basis in the Norrbotten police area. There are opportunities for work in Gällivare, Jokkmokk, and Kiruna. As an hourly employee with us, you will have what is called an intermittent employment. This means that you will be employed for each individual work shift and receive financial compensation per hour. The number of hours worked varies per person and over time. The work may also include evenings and weekends.

You will receive internal training that may take place in another location.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The work as a detention guard involves handling and interacting with individuals who are deprived of their liberty. Many are deprived of liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to, for example, intoxication. As a detention guard, it is your job to receive these individuals and maintain the closest contact during their time as detainees in the detention facility.

Your main responsibilities as a detention guard include receiving and monitoring the individuals in the detention department. You may also perform so-called DNA sampling, fingerprinting, urine sampling, processing, record checks, documentation, photography, and report taking. You will also carry out transports to court hearings.

The pace of work varies and depends on how many individuals are detained. It can be physically demanding and requires that you are in good health. It also places high demands on professional interaction and an approach characterized by respect for everyone's equal value. Detention monitoring is supervised by the station commander.

Additional tasks may arise as the influx of cases can vary greatly. This may include being part of the Police Authority's internal assignments. Tasks within the internal service of the authority may include local service and assisting with minor moves and mail and goods handling. Work in our garage with simple detailing and servicing of vehicles may also occur.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an opportunity for you who have:

• Work experience that the employer deems relevant for the position or are a police student

• A valid driver's license for manual transmission

• Good knowledge of Swedish

• Good computer skills and ease in learning new IT systems

• Good knowledge of spoken English

It is advantageous if you also have:

• Relevant experience in service work with many external direct contacts in the form of personal meetings, as deemed relevant by the employer for the position

• Current experience working with people in vulnerable environments

• Experience working within the police, another authority, or public administration

• Good health, both physically and mentally, as the job requires you to act physically at times

Personal qualities

As an employee, you are the face of the police and are expected to work with commitment, availability, and efficiency.

You have an interest in working with people and have the ability to understand other people's perspectives. In stressful situations, you can act calmly, controlled, and professionally. You apply a high level of safety awareness, which means you are reliable in situations where physical violence may arise. The job also requires you to work well with others while having the ability to work independently. You have a flexible approach and enjoy helping and supporting others.

We will place great importance on personal qualities.
